Hurry up Spring!

Hurry up Spring!
Why are you so slow?
Winter won’t leave
until you make her go!

Bring out the birds
bring out the bees
Start the flowers bloom
if you could please.

The morning air so fresh
Pretty girls hum and sing
kids laugh and playing
Please hurry up, Spring!

10 on 10… {February}

Welcome back to my 10 on 10… another project I am undertaking this year with 16 other very talented ladies. On the 10th of each month, all 17 of us will blog 10 pictures taken over the course of one day. I decided to do this as another way of documenting our everyday life. Even though I take a lot of pictures of my kids, some times I get too busy and forget to remember the little, everyday things that make this life ours. My goal with this monthly challenge is to try, even for only one day each month, to document those things more. I hope you will follow along and maybe be inspired to record more of the little details that make up your every-day lives…

wake up sleepy head…
pack your lunch…
preschool for Erin…
coffee with a friend…
in the car again…
playing with snowflakes…
love to share…
dessert so sweet…
bedtime stories…

Fifty Two on Friday… {letting go of perfect}

I was sitting at the table working with Emily on her Valentine’s box for school… and I try so hard to let her ‘do her thing’. But my artistically trained self wants to reach out and ‘fix’ things for her. This heart is too close in size to its neighbor… This heart is the same color as its neighbor… This heart is facing the same way as its neighbor… But then I watch my little right brained child work full force, letting her creative freedom flow. Letting go of ‘perfect’… One of my favorite artists, Pablo Picasso, once said “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”  So I sit on my hands, close my mouth, and watch her masterpiece unfold… wishing I still had that freedom in so many parts of my life.

The Illuminated Word… {January}

The Illuminated Word is another year long project that I am very excited to be a part of (thank you Rachel for asking me!). Along with seven other photographers, every month each of us will take a part of Scripture that speaks to us, reflect on it, and interpret it with an image. To quote Gail, a member of the group, it’s  ”A reflection of Christ in our everyday”. Love how she sums it up. I hope that this project will inspire you in many ways. My post is just one of a blog circle, so please continue around the circle and take a look at what the other seven ladies have done (see link below).

Romans 5:3-5 (NIV)

3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

The morning Joey was wrestling in the finals in the Berks County Individual Tournament, this was in my inbox. My devotional for the day. And I thought “oh, please don’t let this be a sign”… Joey was undefeated going into the BCI tournament, and all I could think of was, if he is going to lose, please let it be at a small match, not this big tournament! (Why do I think, at times like this, that I konw better than God??) His first match of the day he won 6-0 over a two time champ… and then it was on to the finals. And that match? Joey lost 6-2. And I cried. I wanted so bad to protect him from that loss, that pain. To shield him from any humiliation. But then I thought about my mornings devotion and realized that God had a different plan for him. And that being undefeated wasn’t part of that plan. Instead, it is these trials in our lives that teach us how to persevere despite the pain. Taking trials away from our kids deprives them of the chance to grow, build character, and learn to hope in God. Such a hard thing to let happen, but so necessary. To quote the devotional… “The best character-building lessons are learned from trials.” I hoped and prayed that Joey would be able to learn from this also. So I forwarded that email to Joey and asked him to read it. And you know what? After I picked him up from practice the other night we sat in the car in the driveway and talked (we have the best talks in the car when it’s just the two of us). And he told me that he read that email and he thought it was “pretty cool” that that message came the same day of his first loss of this season. He said he knows what mistakes he made during that match (and others), and those mistakes are helping him grow and get ready for the big tournaments coming up. So what some people might see as just a second place medal, he sees as a lesson from God… a chance to grow, and a way to continue. And I am so thankful for this chance to grow in God’s word with my son!

she said it was a baby bird. with wings, and a belly. and some trees with a nest. and a sun. and lots of clouds.
I see a beautiful imagination. with antennae.  :)
